Sweat Lodge
The Grandmother Way

What is Lodge?
Sweat Lodges are a place to connect to your ancestors without distraction. It's like a time capsule where you can go to the other side with the ancestors and the healing grandmothers. It's supposed to represent the womb of your mother. It's supposed to be warm, comforting, and wet (that's why there is steam). It's a place of rebirth. We always cover ours with blankets (never tarps) so that it's safe.

FAQ
Is it safe?
Yes. Safety is very important to us. Our lodges are covered in breathable blankets. We NEVER use tarps or plastic as it doesn't breathe. You are welcome to ask for the door to be opened if you're too hot or leave the lodge if needed.
What do I wear?
Clothes that you feel comfortable sitting in such as gym clothes or a swim suit. Clothing is required in our lodges. Typically we take our shoes off.

What do I take into lodge?
Yourself, a water bottle, and a towel. We recommend you leave all jewelry, electronics (phones, watches) outside as it gets hot inside. There is a safe place to leave them near the lodge.
Is the lodge accessible?
Yes. The large lodge can be accessed by a ramp. We also have stools if you're unable to sit on the ground.
What if it rains?
We have a plan for that. As long as we can cook the rocks (we've never been beat yet), we can have lodge. One of the lodge spaces is covered.

The Fire Keeper
A fire keeper keeps fire for as long as the rocks need to be cooked (2-6 hours depending on spirit). While the rocks are cooking, we cover the lodge, collect the rain water, set our intentions, sometimes we drum, and we prepare ourselves by being smudged.

The Water Pourer
Inside the lodge, the water pourer leads the lodge. The four gates are opened, then everyone is allowed to speak according to which gate communicates with them. We give honor to the grandfathers (the stones) who sacraficed themselves for us. As a female water pourer, she leads the lodge in the grandmother way and she uses the medicine wheel to explain the grandmother path.
